THE VOID

BY: Dante Penna

DP1

The void

people have felt it

but don’t know about it

I’ve felt, I know it

I gave everything to it

I ventured into it,

Asking for hope, an end of suffering

but instead

It ripped me apart

It ripped, shredded my

feelings.

emotions.

but I still had hope

so I tried to give it hope

It took hope turned it into

despair.

I lost hope the only feeling

I ever had left.

but then someone else jumped.

They gave it their love

and the void accepted it.

It sent that person to a

Utopia.

But it kept me spinning,

and spinning,

Until I let go.

I did it I let go,

And now I can’t

wake up

SPACE
BY: CAROLINA CASTRO DP1

What is Space?

It is all we have and all we do not have. It is all we need and all we undervalue. It is what makes us ourselves and it is the emptiness inside us. It is everything revolving around us, and the everlasting deep emotions and thoughts defining who we are. Space is everything and nothing. Space is what we infinitely imagine it to be.

It is nature. The endless never-ending ocean, the dark blue colour, all the waves splashing against each other. The currents pushing away everything into the frightening deep ocean and bringing everything back from the unknown into the known, water droplets splashing against each other, all the sea species underwater living and creating life in an immense and intimidating space. It is nature.

The sky. The air we breathe, the different colours every day, the blowing wind through the trees making the leaves fall and the branches shake, the clouds moving away in all directions and most of all the sun rising and setting turning the horizon into a mix of warm colours and providing certainty of our emotional space and thoughts. It is everything.

The Mountains. Low or High, with snow or grass, the landscapes, the vegetation surrounding us, the sensation of being on top of everything with nothing over us. The everlasting view to the immense infinite surroundings and the safe and comfortable place it becomes transmitting certainty and assurance. It is so much more than just space. It is everything.

Ice. The compelling dominant Ice. Cold, solid, hard, transparent. Giving off a sense of intimidation. The immense icebergs and endless glaciers, all white and staggering. Unbreakable and melting at the same time. It is incomprehensible and fantastical. It is nature.

Space is so much more than we imagine it to be. It is the Earth. It is everything. ...

WAR PHOTOGRAPHER

My life is meaningless. I feel empty. There is nothing to fill the void in my life. I haven't been through so much that I am unable to feel anything anymore. I am no longer capable of feeling the world I live in. I miss the old me. I miss the happy me. Everything has changed forever. Nobody has experienced the pain and trauma I have witnessed. I snap a couple of meaningless pictures to a society who are not able to fully empathise with the situation. They only read about war. They take five minutes out of their busy lives just to pity them and move on with their lives. They think they are safe and have nothing to worry about. I am meant to risk my life and travel to the most dangerous places around the world. Just to capture pictures that will be mocked and unappreciated in society.  What has become of us ?Are some humans more valuable than others? Are they not worthy of living? . Do we bring children to this world just to ship them off to war? Or do we want them to grow up in a world stricken of war and hate? They do not understand they never will.
